A treasured Husband, dad, granddad, great-granddad, Brother and friend of all, who is sadly missed
by all who new him and will never be forgotten. We love you forever Dad.

My Dad Archie (as he was know by all who knew him) was always out and about where he lived in walker
and liked to have a bet on the horses. He didn’t drink much but when he had a few he was a good
laugh and always having fun. He would always be there to help us out if we needed anything and
never judged us. He always gave us advice and guided us when we needed it. He loved all his family
and loved to take sweets and treats to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and would go from
one house to another just to give them out to them, he always loved to see their smiling faces.
Christmas Day he would try his hardest to visit all his children if possible and make sure plenty of
photos were taken of all his family, if he didn’t manage to get to all the houses on Christmas day
he would go on boxing day and he made sure he seen all his family over the Christmas period. He
loved to have his family around him and if I missed a couple of days from going to visit him he
would be on the phone or tell my mum to phone to see why I hadn’t been to see them. For months my
dad said he wasn’t feeling too well but still seemed to get around so nobody really thought much
about it. Around this time some of his grandchildren and son Archie (and sometimes me, son Brian
and his other daughter Margy) started to go on a night time once or twice a week to play cards and
dominos as my dad loved to play. Then in December 2002 just before Christmas Archie was taken ill
and rushed to hospital, he was diagnosed with cancer within a few days of being admitted to the
hospital. Further tests revealed that his cancer had spread throughout his body and there was
nothing the doctors could do. In January 2003 he came home and fought his cancer as long and hard
as he could, he also made sure that the cards and dominos didn’t stop. Then in August 2003 he
found he could no longer fight his cancer. He sadly passed away in his sleep at home with his
family at his bedside on August 26th 2003.

We sat beside your bedside, our hearts were crushed and sore, we did what we could to make you well
till we could do no more. With tears we watched you sinking, we saw you fade away and though our
hearts were breaking we knew you could not stay.

God bless you Dad and may you now be free from all the pain.

Always remembered never forgotten.

THIS POEM WAS WHAT I WROTE TO MY DAD AND WAS READ OUT AT HIS SERVICE

DAD

They say that time will heal us
Today it’s hard to believe
Dad as you lay there sleeping
This is how we feel
We cry the tears of sorrow
Of sadness and despair
The thought that you are gone now
And no longer there
We remember all the good times
The ones we all have shared
The memory of your smiling face
The happiness you gave
The joy you gave to all of us
Whenever you were there
It’s hard to say good-bye to you
Till we meet again
But I know that one-day
We definitely will
So may you now rest peacefully
With no more pain
Lay your head to rest
And DAD you were the best
May god now bless you
And keep you safe and well
Till we see you again

Forever in our hearts

DAUGHTER IN LAW DENISE ALSO WROTE A VERSE FOR MY DAD WHICH WAS ALSO READ AT THE SERVICE

FATHER

ALL THROUGH ARE LIVES YOU GUIDED US
KEPT US STRAIGHT AND TRUE
I KNOW SOMETIMES WE FAULTERED
BUT WE COULD ALWAYS COUNT ON YOU
SOMETIMES WE’D HAVE A PROBLEM
SOMETIMES DISAGREE
BUT ALWAYS WHEN WE NEEDED YOU
THERE YOU WOULD BE
BECAUSE DEAR FATHER YOU LOVED US
WITH A HEART SO WARM AND TRUE
NEVER IN ALL LIFE TIME COULD
ANOTHER REPLACE YOU
TO-DAY WE SAY FAREWELL
TO OUR FATHER HELD SO DEAR
WE’VE SHARED SO MUCH HAPPINESS
SOME PLEASURE AND SOME PAIN
BUT ALL THIS WE PROMISE YOU
AND NEVER WILL WE REFRAIN
IN OUR HEARTS AND MEMORIES
FOREVER WILL YOU REMAIN
TILL TIME WILL COME EVENTUALLY
WE’LL BE HELD IN YOUR ARMS
ONCE AGAIN.

LOVE ALWAYS

They say memories are golden,
Well, maybe that is true;
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried;
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still;
In my heart you hold a piece
No one could ever fill.

But now I know you want me
To mourn for you no more,
To remember the happy times
Life still has much in store.

Since you'll never be forgotten
I pledge to you today;
A hallowed place within my heart
Is where you'll always stay.

If tears could build a stairway
And heartache make a lane;
I'd walk the path to heaven
And bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same;
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again

Thank you cath for all the lovely candles for my mum and dad and demi-leigh xxxx love elaine xxxx

FOR CATH

Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
To sweet eternity.

We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We are all meant to learn some things,
But never meant to stay.

Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know,
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.

But when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the Lord.

Rest in eternal peace Archbold xx
